With Christmas markets, children’s activities, popular theatre shows and pantomimes and more to get involved in, Glasgow is the perfect festive family destination for you to take your children to meet Santa and more this year. We’ve listed some of the best Christmas events in Glasgow that both you and your little ones are sure to love.
Hamleys in Glasgow is not only the perfect place to head to find exciting Christmas gifts for your little ones, this year, it’s become the temporary home of the gift-giver himself, the one and only Father Christmas. As a parent to young children you will undoubtedly want to keep the magic of Christmas alive as long as possible for your children, and there’s nothing quite as magical as a visit to the legendary Santa Claus over the festive period. Your child will enjoy a 60-minute session with Santa where they’ll have an exclusive meet and greet with him and his elves, they will take part in exclusive games and activities before eating tasty snacks. After writing and posting their Christmas wish list to the North Pole, they’ll receive their very own goody bag from Santa to take home.
Festive markets are the perfect destination for the whole family as they often include activities and features that people of all ages can enjoy. This year, Glasgow’s Christmas markets are held at St. Enoch Square until 22nd December, they will include craft and gift stalls, and of course food stalls where you can enjoy a variety of favourite festive treats along with continental beers and mulled wine for the adults. If you’re planning to visit the markets with your little ones, it’s important to be aware that children are only allowed in the bar before 7pm, and must be under adult supervision at all times. For safe parking near the markets, see www.cityparkingglasgow.co.uk or www.yourparkingspace.co.uk.
For decades, pantomime shows of favourite fairy tales have been a festive tradition. In Glasgow, you can visit the King’s Theatre with your kids to see an unmissable, traditional Christmas pantomime show of the much-loved fairy tale Cinderella. The panto is running until the 8th January, and is the perfect show for both adults and kids alike to attend and ‘have a ball’. If your little ones aren’t keen on princess stories, the SECC Clyde Auditorium is also holding a panto, with the well-loved tale of Aladdin, starring hugely successful performer Marti Pellow as Jafar and Glasgow panto favourite Johnny Mac as Wishee Washee for a show that the whole family won’t forget for a long time!
