Visiting Granada Nicaragua

We recently spent a week in Granada with our two children and had an absolute blast.  The town’s colonial architecture, assortment of child friendly activities,  fabulous food, and close proximity to wildlife made it a win-win.

Here is my guide to what to do while in Granada:

Sleep

Plan to stay in town to have easy access to good food and nightlife. Hotel Granada is a great downtown choice. Complete with a pool, restaurant, and gallery, you will have everything you need to escape the heat and be within walking distance from the best amenities.

Eat

Granada has an amazing assortment of international cuisine at amazing prices. There is also excellent street food if you are brave enough to try the flavorful tacos, quesillos, fritos, and gallo pinto that locals prepare in the street outside of their homes.  Our favorite meal was an exquisite pizza prepared by Don Luca’s.

Fun

Brimming with affordable family activities, Granada is sure to delight children and parents alike.  From carriage rides to waterfront playgrounds, there are dozens of things to do right in town.  One thing you absolutely can not miss if you have small children is Parque Luis Alfonso Velasquez in Managua.

Nature

If you are willing to venture out a bit, nearby Masaya Volcano and nearby artisan market are not to be missed.
